Hobart J. Winters, 91, Beavercreek, OH, passed away January, 17th.

He was born Jan 12, 1922 in Walton, IN, the son of Willard and Noma Winters.

During WWII he was an officer in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. While serving in Burma with Merrill’s Marauders he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism. Years later he commanded the Indiana National Guard’s 138th Signal Battalion (for over 11 years- a U.S. Army record) until his retirement with 28 1/2 years service.

After the war he returned to his civilian job as a lineman with Indiana Bell. He finished that career at the executive level upon retirement in 1982. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, American Legion and Carmel Christian Church.

Hobart is survived by a son, James; and a daughter, Tamela, as well as a sister, Margaret. Survivors include 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, Feb 25 from 9 until service time, with services at 11 a.m. at Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory, Harry W Moore Chapel, Indianapolis. Burial will follow at Deer Creek Cemetery, Onward.

    To Hobe’s Family….I worked with Hobe in a different department of Indiana Bell, but once meeting this special man you didn’t forget him — and really treasured the contacts you had with him. I am saddened for you on his passing.
